MAKAKALIKASAN (Nature Party Philippines) welcome this development but asks the questions "... where are the municipal waste going now? hope not under the rug and not in some incinerators for waste to energy plants?" Closing the dumpsites are long overdue but this is just a small part of the array of solutions outlined in our National Ecological Solid Waste Management Law (RA9003). We will continue to push government and monitor their fully complying with all the provisions of RA9003. We will also continue to do our part through our chapters and the communities we work with and in our individual homes and family to promote the waste management at source strategy of the law. But we remind everyone individual and local actions by citizens will never be enough. Consistent, sufficient and decisive action by government is KEY. MAKAKALIKASAN (Nature Party Philippines), reminds DENR that this is long overdue. No need for grandstanding. Just finish the job. We welcome and support all efforts now by the DENR to enforce this long-delayed law. There is no more excuse in not fully enforcing this law. Our time is up. This is simply what is expected of DENR and the LGUs. No more, no less. Just get it done!

This is especially important following the last COA audit on the failure of the last implementation period of the National Greening Program (NGP) to reach its target. It will be recalled that the COA reported that by December 2019, the NGP only achieved 12% of its target while. As a sound reforestation for the province and the rest of the country is now a matter of survival due to the massive flooding that many part of the country has been subjected to as a direct result of deforestation and as made worse by extreme weather conditions as early onset impact of climate change in the country.
