MAKAKALIKASAN launches 4 key programs this PH Environment month and joins the 1Sambayan Coalition6/4/2021 PUBLIC STATEMENT | For Immediate Release 2 July 2021 | Download the statement here
An emerging national green political party, MAKAKALIKASAN (Nature Party Philippines) aptly commemorates the start of the Philippine Environment Month this June, 2021 to launch four (4) innovative programs to mainstream its brand of ecologism ideology. This signals the entry of environmentalists in mainstream politics in the country. Last April 30, MAKAKALIKASAN submitted its petition for registration with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to be recognized as a national political party. Equally important, from the decision of its founding assembly held last Earth Day, April 22, 2021, MAKAKALIKASAN has also resolved to weigh in its support for the 1Sambayan Electoral Coalition. Party National President Cipriano "Ping" Fampulme said that MAKAKALIKASAN has offered to join 1Samabayan in its effort at a common candidate selection process for the position of President, Vice President and 12 Senators for the May 2022 elections towards a "unified opposition". He added that MAKAKALIKASAN also offered to ensure that at least 3 of the Senatorial candidates will be chosen on the basis of a strong support for our 15-point GREEN AGENDA to ensure green champions in the Senate.
With the Duterte administration finally showing its true anti-environment & anti-community color with his latest order of lifting the moratorium on new mining operations & the ban on open-pit mining, a complete turn around of the President's political agenda against mining, MAKAKALIKASAN joins this unified opposition, declares Party National Chairperson, Roy J. Cabonegro. The 4 programs that MAKAKALIKASAN will launch this Philippine Environment Month are all designed to strengthen the Party as it will try to galvanize support from the broader green movement in the country to convince green leaders to join the Party and allow themselves to be selected as candidates for the May 2022 national and local elections These programs include the MAKAKALIKASAN COMMUNITY PLANTREE a nationwide reforestation & forest protection program aiming to contribute 3,000 hectares to our 10 year goal of moving this country to a 40% forest cover from the current 23% (7 million hectares of remaining forest) reports Vincer Quibral, Party Interim Chairperson in our chapter in Labo, Camarines Norte where the original community plantree initiative has already been piloted. Initial sites to launch this program are reforestation & forest protection work in Morong Bataan, Tanay Rizal, Ternate Cavite, Victoria Oriental Mindoro, Labo Camarines Norte, Bayawan City Negros Oriental, and Iligan City, Lanao del Norte. More sites are being finalized. Another equally important program is the MAKAKALIKASAN GREEN NORMAL INITIATE ONLINE TV, a series of three regular online broadcasts to enhance public awareness and promote advocacies of our 15-point Green Agenda. The first in this series is a monthly (1st Tuesdays) Green Days Campaign Webinar on the various "commemorative environmental days" to highlight specific environmental issues. For the 2nd to the 4th/5th Tuesdays, the second in the series is the MAKAKALIKASAN Kapehan, a weekly policy forum featuring each of the 15-point Green Agenda. As part of these Kapehan, MAKAKALIKASAN will also host an online press conference to engage the media on our positions & public statements on various issues. The final series held every Thursdays is the regular Green Normal Initiative (GNI) Online TV Show of MAKAKALIKASAN that will discuss the various "Green Normal'' solutions with regular segments covering volunteering for green actions, young green issues, women's empowerment & gender equality, self-determination of various the various "peoples" of the country - Indigenous, Bangsamoro, Cordillera & the final peace settlements in their ancestral domains. These are all excellent platforms for the Party to be able to raise awareness and educate the public and communicate the views and positions of the Party, says Party National Spokesperson, Ellen Estares. The 3rd program is the MAKAKALIKASAN GREEN RATING-SCORECARD-COVENANT MONITORING Campaign that will assess the level of consistency of potential local & national candidates for the 2022 elections to our 15-point Green Agenda. Results of this assessment in the form of a rating & scorecard will become the basis for considering any principled political alliance of Makakalikasan. Through a green covenant to be signed & publicized with the top rated "green potential candidates", this will trigger a recurring monitoring of the performance of these potential candidates every 6 months for the next 6 years. This is the Party's contribution to voters' education, notes the Party Secretary-General, Rameses Javier Casten. Finally, the 4th program launched is the MAKAKALIKASAN GREEN PEOPLES' PRIMARY ELECTIONS, Makakalikasan's innovative candidate selection mechanism. The Party President explains that this primary will involve the public and will not be limited to members for both the nominated potential candidates and its voters in its first of a 2-stage process. This will allow for the surfacing of potential green leaders from the community and help them analyze and realize their potentials to get elected via this pre-election process that will already simulate the most likely voting trends of certain sectors and localities, he adds. However; the Party President continues, that since this is still an internal candidate selection process, the 2nd stage of nomination and primary election will eventually be limited to nominees who are party candidates. This means that those non-members who had a good standing in the stage 1 of primary elections should be encouraged by their supporters to join the Party and join the 2nd stage so that they may have the opportunity to be chosen as the final candidates. As this month's Philippine Environment Month is loaded with many environmental days representing various important environmental issues, we enjoin party members, our local chapters and supporters/ volunteers to please consider organizing or joining relevant activities for the following events:
